Wenstrup Encourages Participation in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Highlights Continued Efforts to Fight Prescription Drug Abuse

Cincinnati, September 26, 2014 | Meghan Waters ((513) 474-7777)

In advance of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on September 27th, U.S. Representative Brad Wenstrup (OH-2) encouraged Ohioans to take advantage of the opportunity to properly dispose of their expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs and expressed support for ongoing efforts to combat prescription drug abuse in Ohio’s Second Congressional District.

“Opiate and heroin abuse is rampant not only in southern Ohio, but around the state and the country. This epidemic has wreaked havoc on individuals’ and families’ lives, as well as communities,” Wenstrup said. “Fighting this epidemic is not an easy task, but we must continue to raise awareness about the issue and to cut the supply of prescription opiates which act as a gateway to heroin.”

Several local law enforcement agencies will be participating in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, including the Milford Police Department in Clermont County. Rep. Wenstrup is slated to meet with City of Milford officials today to discuss their plans for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, as well as their overall efforts to combat drug abuse in Clermont County. “We are excited to meet with Congressman Wenstrup this Friday. My staff and I plan to explain the enforcement and education components of our plan to reduce prescription drug abuse, as well as the heroin epidemic,” said Jamey Mills, Milford Police Chief.
