Wenstrup lauded for support of veteran’s ID card

Chillicothe Gazette

There are occasions where common sense and simple solutions are possible. It’s a bit shocking to learn one of the biggest frustrations for veterans is a lack of a standard veteran’s ID card.

Under the current law, if you are not eligible to receive a VA issued ID card, your DD-214 form related to discharge is the only way to prove your veteran status. As you might imagine discharge may have been several months, years or even decades ago. Carrying around such a document with some sensitive information is not the best wisdom. Finding such a form in your old records is not always an easy solution either.

I recently learned U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup, our 2nd district representative, joined a number of other colleagues co-sponsoring House Resolution 91 — Veterans ID Card that has been sent to the president’s desk. That step is long overdue and is expected to ease the process of seeking care or other inquiry. I hope it will also contain fraud prevention measures.
