WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Representative Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) led a bipartisan delegation letter to the House Appropriations Committee requesting funds to assist states, tribes, and territories in implementing the Family First Prevention Services Act, which was signed into law as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018. The Family First Prevention Services Act will, for the first time, provide states with matching federal funds for evidence-based prevention services – including mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and in-home parent skill-based services – aimed at keeping families together and reducing the need for foster care placements. The lawmakers wrote: “As the epicenter of the opioid crisis, Ohio continues to see the impact of this epidemic daily in rising caseloads, more children entering foster care, and more families broken apart. The Family First Prevention Services Act will provide the state with another tool to fight this epidemic and keep more families intact. It is important that we support a seamless and timely implementation. Ohio’s children deserve no less.” The letter was also signed by Representatives Troy Balderson, Steve Chabot, Marcia Fudge, Bob Gibbs, Anthony Gonzalez, Bill Johnson, Steve Stivers, and Michael Turner.
