Wenstrup Statement on Biden Administration Plan to Evacuate Afghan Interpreters

CINCINNATI – Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) issued the following statement after the Biden administration announced it would be evacuating Afghans who assisted the U.S. Military:

“First and foremost, this is welcome news. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to help our warfighters safely and effectively complete their missions. We have an obligation to ensure their safety,” said Rep. Brad Wenstrup. “While I disagree with the administration’s decision to publicly announce a specific withdrawal date – which informed our adversaries and endangers our allies – an evacuation plan should have been in place beforehand regardless.”

He also added, “The bipartisan Honoring Our Promises Working Group played a big role in keeping the pressure on the administration to act. I’m grateful that we were able to get the HOPE for Afghan SIVs Act passed in the House and urge Leader Schumer to bring it up for immediate consideration in the Senate. While today’s announcement is positive, there is still work to be done on this critical issue.”
