A Costly Veto
|
For the 54th time in a row, Congress has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a bipartisan defense bill that provides our service members and their families with the resources they need to effectively protect our nation. Matching the President’s budget request, the NDAA not only funds our defense efforts but also improves pay and benefits for our troops and their families.

Unfortunately, instead of supporting these efforts, President Obama held a photo-op to veto the NDAA and promote his own partisan agenda. It is time for Congress to work to override the president’s veto and keep our promises to our troops, our veterans, and their families.

House passes budget reconciliation bill to defund Planned Parenthood, repeal major ObamaCare provisions |
|
Last Friday, the House took an important step to defund Planned Parenthood and dismantle the malignant Affordable Care Act. We passed the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act, a budget reconciliation bill that only requires a simple majority to pass the Senate and reach the president's desk. This bill would:
|
- Stop federal Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood.
- Repeal ObamaCare's individual mandate & employer mandate.
- Repeal the medical device tax, which inhibits innovation.
- Repeal the "Cadillac" tax on high-cost employer health plans.
- Repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund, a government slush fund .
|
While we will continue working to repeal the president's health care law in its entirety, this bill is a positive step towards repealing government intrusions into your health care. |

Join the Conversation
Listening to you is an important part of my job. Whether it's through one-on-one meetings or Coffees with your Congressman, hearing your insight helps me better represent Ohio's Second District in the halls of Congress.
Another way to connect is through live and free telephone townhalls. These are great opportunities to hear about what's happening in Washington, ask questions on issues that matter to you, and participate in surveys on the top news of the day, all from your phone. I hope you'll join the conversation!

Second District Stops
Earlier this month, I made several stops across the Second District, from Chillicothe to Cincinnati. I sat down with your local government officials and business leaders for community updates, attended ceremonies to honor our brave men and women who defend our country and our communities, and even discussed American government and our Constitution with students at Chatfield College.
Check out some pictures from my visits:

Honoring Our Heroes
Last Tuesday, I visited the World War II Memorial with some of our Tri-State heroes who answered the call to serve in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Thanks to the great volunteers at Honor Flight Tri-State, these veterans were able to travel free-of-charge to see their own war memorials in Washington, D.C.
As a veteran myself, I always consider it a great privilege to welcome these brave men and women to our nation's capital. Thank you for your selfless service!
