Remembering Officer Kim
|
Cincinnati tragically lost police officer Sonny Kim while he served in the line of duty last week. He leaves behind a wife, three sons, and his brothers and sisters at the Cincinnati Police Department.
Officer Kim exemplified what it means to be a public servant, and he represented the best of our community. Monica and I continue to offer prayers for his family and friends, the Cincinnati Police Department, and our entire community as we grieve the loss of this hero in blue. |

ObamaCare ... or SCOTUScare? |
The U.S. Supreme Court upheld ObamaCare and declared that 6.4 million Americans can continue receiving subsidies even though they purchased health insurance on the federal exchange.
I agree with Justice Scalia - "we should start calling this law SCOTUScare," based on how many times the Supreme Court has bent over backwards to save the healthcare law from itself. Read more from Scalia's dissent here.
Despite this ruling, I will continue fighting to repeal this law that is harming the majority of Americans, and replace it with solutions that will make care more affordable and available for all.

American Hostages in Iran
|
While the Obama administration works to strike a nuclear deal with Iran by June 30, Iran continues to wrongfully imprison three American citizens: Pastor Saeed Abedini, former U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati, and journalist Jason Rezaian. Recently, the House unanimously passed a resolution, H. Res. 233, calling on Iran to immediately release these three captives, and provide any information concerning the whereabouts of other American citizens who have disappeared within its borders.

"That would be a mistake, Congressman." |
Since the U.S. first took military action against ISIS last summer, it's clear that this administration lacks a decisive strategy to destroy ISIS. Following President Obama's early decision to withdraw our military presence in the region without leaving a contingency force, the Islamic State has continued to gain ground in Iraq and Syria, reversing hard-fought gains by the American military.
Recently, some congressmen proposed to further draw back current American forces, introducing a resolution to remove all U.S. troops deployed to Iraq and Syria since the beginning of the fight against ISIS.
I asked General Martin Dempsey (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) about this very resolution during a recent Armed Services committee hearing. He asserted that this resolution would be a "mistake." I agree. ISIS is a direct threat to our national security, and we must confront that threat head on. Subsequently, the resolution was defeated in the House of Representatives.

District Travels
During my District Work days, I hit the road in Adams, Clermont, and Highland Counties. I visited with the Adams County Commissioners, stopped by the TaTa Consultancy STEM summer camp, and said hello to campers and facilitators at Kamp Dovetail.
