Military to Receive 2015 Marching Orders

NDAA Passes House on Path to Becoming Law

With bipartisan support Thursday afternoon, the House of Representatives passed the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which directs military operations for the next year. Congressman Brad Wenstrup, an Army Reservist and member of the House Armed Services Committee, highlighted the bill’s efforts to address global threats like ISIS and Russia and support service members and their families in an era of declining resources.

“This is the kind of important work Congress does, an overwhelmingly bipartisan bill negotiated between the House and Senate to support our troops’ mission here and abroad. Our military cannot plan without this legislation,” Wenstrup commented on the bill’s passage. “This legislation provides for our country’s fighting men and women, their families, and the essential equipment and resources to maintain critical national security readiness levels.”

Provisions in the bill include additional funding for Reserve and National Guard equipment, new funds to combat suicide within the ranks, and the continued prohibition on the transfer of any detainees from the Guantanamo Bay prison facility to the United States.

Wenstrup praised the retiring House Armed Services Chairman, Buck McKeon, for negotiating differences between the House and Senate over the last weeks to bring a bill to the House floor. The 2015 NDAA is the 53rd consecutive bipartisan defense bill, and is expected to pass the Senate next week and be signed by the President before the end of the year.
