WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) voted in favor of the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act (H.R. 3354), which passed the House of Representatives.

H.R. 3354, along with the Make America Secure Appropriations Act (H.R. 3219) that the House passed earlier this year, completes the 12-bill FY 2018 appropriations package that will be sent to the Senate.

“Today’s appropriations bill advances important priorities that the American people have told Washington they want in law, including boosting border security, reducing bureaucratic red-tape, supporting our nation’s law enforcement, and fighting the opioid epidemic,” said Rep. Brad Wenstrup. “I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to take swift action on this legislation so we can send it to the president’s desk.”

Highlighted provisions included in the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act:

  • Prioritizes the battle against the scourge of opioid abuse by enhancing drug enforcement efforts within the DEA, including heroin enforcement and combatting transnational organized crime, and increasing funding for the DEA’s Diversion Control Program; and including $103M as authorized by CARA for drug courts, treatment, and prescription drug monitoring.
  • Supports American farmers and ranchers by continuing operations at all Agricultural Research facilities, supporting the Agriculture Food Research Initiative grant program, and providing $2.6B for infrastructure development, housing needs, and loans to help expand rural businesses and industries.
  • Reduces spending and regulatory red tape by rolling back burdensome, job-killing regulations like the Joint-Employer standard, the Department of Labor Fiduciary Rule, and prohibits the IRS from implementing the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate.
  • Secures America’s borders by boosting funding for Customs and Border Protection and funding for physical barrier construction along the southern border.
  • Prioritizes public health and medical research by increasing funding for biomedical research at NIH, including increases for Alzheimer’s disease research and public health preparedness and bioterrorism.
  • Preserves the Sanctity of Life by including the text of the Conscience Protection Act and containing no funding for Planned Parenthood. H.R. 3354 also includes language to repeal the District of Columbia’s ‘Death with Dignity Act,’ which would legalize physician-assisted suicide in our nation’s capital.
