Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) released the below statement following his vote on the $36.5 billion Disaster Relief Supplemental, which included a $16 billion dollar bailout provision for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP):
“Providing relief for victims of natural emergencies is a critical responsibility of the federal government, and I previously voted to provide FEMA with additional funding for disaster relief and emergency assistance, as well as to the Small Business Administration for disaster loan programs for individuals, families, and small businesses who need help getting back on their feet. Congress also has a duty to be responsible with taxpayer dollars by offsetting funding that is not truly “emergency” in nature, particularly when the national debt is already at an all-time high. Instead, today’s legislation waives billions in existing debt for the National Flood Insurance Program, without any accompanying reforms.
We can compassionately provide relief for victims of natural disasters, without worsening our man-made disaster: our national debt. Once again, it is all of our children and grandchildren who are the victims of that disaster.”
Great news! It just became easier to get to and from vaccination appointments. Read more here: https://t.co/EKrzMb09B2
