WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) released a video after Speaker Paul Ryan announced his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives.  Below are his full remarks as delivered:

“Speaker Paul Ryan is a great leader, and an even better man.  In today’s world, we have too many people who put politics ahead of God, family, and country.  This is something Paul Ryan has never done. Despite his natural political savvy, he has never lost sight of what is important.  Paul Ryan has always put his family, his faith, and the country he loves to serve as his highest priorities.  Those priorities have honorably guided his decision not to seek re-election, so that he can be the father and husband that he loves being.

Speaker Ryan’s tenure in the House of Representatives is an example of selfless service and optimistic leadership. Both in his 20-years serving Wisconsin’s First District, and in stepping in to lead our conference as Speaker, he has put others ahead of himself.

“It has been an honor to serve with Speaker Ryan.  Under his leadership and bold vision, we have passed the most meaningful tax reform in over 30 years, we’ve begun the important work of rebuilding our national security, and we’ve rolled back onerous regulations to unleash growth opportunities for all Americans.

“Paul Ryan will finish his term with the same vigor and professionalism that has led to his success.  Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and your family, for setting the type of example that all Americans can be proud of. God bless you.”
