Wenstrup VA Bills Advance

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) released the following statement after four bills he sponsored were reported out of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee:

“I am proud to see these important bills advance toward consideration by the full House of Representatives. These provisions increase services available to veterans, effectively use VA resources, and help unburden gold star widows. I remain committed to serving our veterans and their families,” said Congressman Brad Wenstrup. 

Background:

The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee passed the following four bills that included text sponsored by Congressman Brad Wenstrup:

·         HR. 5649 legislation that aims to better equip service members with the skills needed to successfully transition into civilian life and includes Rep. Wenstrup’s bill to correct a legislative loophole and ensure flight schools cannot exploit the GI Bill and drive up costs.

·         H.R. 5693 Long-Term Care Veterans Choice Act, which includes Congressman Wenstrup’s VET OPP Act to prioritize programs that empower veterans in their civilian lives and enhance their economic opportunity by creating a Veterans Economic Opportunity and Transition Administration.

·         H.R. 5882 the Gold Star Spouses Leasing Relief Act, which Congressman Wenstrup introduced with Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL-17) to support widows and widowers of our fallen heroes as they adjust following the death of their spouse.

·         H.R. 6066 introduced by Congressman Wenstrup, which would broadly introduce private sector productivity measurements to the Veteran Health Administration to ensure resources are being effectively used to help veterans
