Friend -

This week, Congress is back in session with some big challenges to tackle – including the budget, tax reform, health reform, and border security just to name a few. But before the week gets away from us, I wanted to share a couple of my favorite moments from the time I spent with folks all across Ohio's Second District over the past week and a half during the April District Work Period. Take a look at some of the highlights below:

Listening to local employers. I hosted a roundtable at the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce to hear from local employers and small business owners about the impact federal regulations have on their companies' ability to grow, compete, create jobs and boost wages.

Sending off Ohio veterans on an Honor Flight. One of my favorite moments was being able to attend the Honor Flight send off at CVG. These ceremonies are a small gesture of appreciation for our veterans from a grateful nation. I was honored to meet with these veterans and thank them for all they have done for our country.

Speaking at Mercy Anderson Physician Charitable Foundation.  Incredibly impressive students from Turpin, Anderson, and St. Ursula High Schools were awarded scholarship funds for their academic record and plans to study medicine in college. Congratulations to each and every student – you make Ohio proud!

Visiting Bethel, OH. Appreciated the opportunity to stop by Bethel and to meet with Mayor Ausman to hear about community and economic development - what a beautiful day!

Meeting with Students at Eastern High School. Had a thoughtful and engaging conversation with students at Eastern High School in Winchester. We talked about everything from financial literacy, which they're learning about this year, to serving in the military, serving in Congress, and topics like trade, foreign policy, and national defense. Thanks for having me and thanks for asking such good questions!

Hosting a Restaurant Roundtable. It was valuable to hear from more Ohio employers during the roundtable listening session with local restaurant owners that I hosted at White Castle in Eastgate. Our Second Congressional District is home to 1,271 eating and drinking establishments, employing more than 24,600 people.

Visiting Chillicothe. It was great to see firsthand the project by the Chillicothe-Ross Chamber of Commerce to preserve and connect its historic, recreational and agricultural strengths to create a unique experience for residents and visitors.

Touring local manufacturing plants. Anoter stop I made was to Atricure -- a medical device company in Mason that employs a number of constituents of the Second District. I appreciated the opportunity to tour their facility and see firsthand how the medical device tax can be debilitating to small companies trying to grow and create jobs.

Hearing from medical professionals at HealthSouth. HealthSouth is a rehabilitation hospital in Norwood that offers comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services to return patients to leading active and independent lives. It was great to hear directly from medical professional there about their work.

Listening to staff at Adena Regional Medical Center. It was helpful to be able to meet with staff and leadership, and hear their thoughts on healthcare reform and how the government can best be assisting their efforts to provide quality care to patients and lower healthcare costs. Appreciated their feedback and insights.

I am committed to continuing these constructive conversations about what we can do to grow our economy, lower healthcare costs, increase wages for hardworking Americans, and ensure the best possible health care for our nation's veterans. As always, I greatly appreciate your thoughts and input. If you'd like to share your thoughts with me, please send me an email, call my office, sign up for my email updates, or sign up for an upcoming telephone townhall. I look forward to hearing from you.

In your service,
