Washington, D.C. - Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) issued this statement following his support for passage of security funding bills supporting U.S. allies:
“I have spent my life protecting the liberties of the American people and shielding them from harm, and this vote was no exception. Since President Biden took office, his policy of appeasement has emboldened adversaries who seek to harm America and our interests around the world. Dictators and terrorists now threaten to set the world on fire, endangering Americans serving overseas and our homeland. We’ve seen the consequences of President Biden’s weakness play out over the last three years and his willingness to let our allies fall while not defending our borders. The disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan emboldened the likes of Russia, China, and Iran to further destabilize the free world. This security bill responds to the global threats that have festered under Biden's watch, putting freedom loving people into jeopardy.
“America First means America leads, and we must stand by our friends and allies in Europe, the Pacific, and the Middle East. We need to be the adults in the room to protect our allies. When it comes to Ukraine, I've been long past frustrated with President Biden’s inability to articulate a strategy for victory against Putin; and last fall, I joined fellow veterans in Congress in presenting a plan to the President and the American people. This funding, the vast majority of which goes towards military aid, requires the Administration to have a strategy that defines and prioritizes U.S. national security interests and gives the American people metrics of success. With this funding we can replenish the U.S. stockpile with more modern munitions and invest in domestic supply chains and manufacturing of advanced weapons systems.
“Keeping these threats abroad at bay keeps us safe here at home, but we cannot be blind to Biden’s willful failures in securing our border. Our border is weak because of President Biden’s actions, not because Congress failed to act. He has taken more than 60 intentional actions that weaken our border and reversed President Trump’s success at stopping the flow of illegal immigrants. While Biden flounders, the American people must know Biden is lying every time he claims to need Congress to close the border. He can and should immediately reverse course on his own failed policies. Congress has already passed the gold standard when it comes to border security legislation: H.R. 2.
“Due to Biden’s disastrous foreign policy, Congress must again come to the rescue. This only stops when the American people send Biden back to Delaware for good.”
