Representative Brad Wenstrup is hosting an art competition, Home in Ohio, as part of the House of Representative’s Congressional Art Competition. All high school students in Ohio’s Second District are invited to participate. The art should reflect what it means to the artist to live here in Ohio.
Art or images of original works must be submitted as a digital image file for purposes of judging and for display on Congressman Wenstrup’s websites. No physical pieces of art will be accepted or considered in the local competition. Only the winning piece will need to be submitted as a hard copy for display in the U.S. Capitol.
Digital image files must be saved on a CD and submitted with the release form to the Cincinnati District Office no later than April 15th.
A few types of acceptable art include images of original paintings and drawings, photography or computer-generated art. Images of 3-D art including sculptures can be displayed, but cannot be considered to win the contest.
Art should be suitable for viewing by people of all ages. In the event a piece is not suitable, it may not be displayed.
From April 18th through May 2nd, online voting open to the public will take place on Facebook. Online voting coupled with scores assigned by a panel of judges will determine the winning piece.
The winner of the local competition will receive two airline tickets to Washington, D.C. and have their original artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
The winning artist and all honorable mentions will be notified the first week of May. It is the responsibility of the winning artist to frame their piece for display in the Capitol and deliver it to the Cincinnati office by May 31st. The winning piece can be no larger than 28” by 28” by 4” and must weigh less than 15 pounds.
CDs will only be returned to the artist upon request.
Questions can be directed to the Cincinnati District Office at (513) 474-7777.
