Conservative Reforms Define House-Passed Funding Bill

Wenstrup points towards 2015 immigration showdown

With federal government funding set to expire at midnight on Thursday, the House of Representatives passed legislation with significant reforms to keep the government open through next September. While Representative Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) was disappointed Congress and the public did not have more time to review the legislation, he believes it lays the foundation for  Republicans’ legislative agenda to begin 2015, including blocking President Obama’s executive action on immigration.

“The fight’s not over,” Wenstrup declared. “I’m glad the House has moved to fund the government, but know we are gearing up to fight this President’s unconstitutional executive immigration action. With the newly elected Senate, Congress will speak for the American people and against President Obama’s unprecedented power grab.”

Wenstrup noted provisions significantly reduce IRS budgets, give the military a raise, and cut funding for numerous funds within Obamacare. Also included was Wenstrup’s amendment to eliminate wasteful government printing that passed the House earlier this year.

“When Nancy Pelosi and Elizabeth Warren oppose the legislation, you know you’re likely doing something right,” Wenstrup observed. The legislation must pass the Senate and be signed by the President before becoming law.
