Rep. Brad Wenstrup took a tour of the village of Batavia and met with local officials Thursday, Aug. 21.

In a meeting at the village offices that included Mayor John Thebout, Chris Smith of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Central Joint Fire Chief Kevin Riley, Sheriff A.J. “Tim” Rodenberg, Bob Baillie of the Village Association and others, Batavia village administrator Dennis Nichols gave Rep. Wenstrup an overview of the village’s recent revitalization efforts.

Those efforts have included a series of annexations which have greatly increased the village’s revenue, and a $5 million rebuilding and redesign of East Main, North Fourth, and South Second Streets.

The group then took a walking tour of the village, stopping at the offices of The Clermont Sun, Living Spaces Custom Design, Baxla Tractor, TowneScapes, and Grammas Pizza.

“I’m pleased to see the community come together and work on an economic turnaround that I believe is taking place,” Wenstrup said.

Mayor John Thebout said that he was pleased with Wenstrup’s visit.

“It’s a good thing to get some of our leaders together and express ideas and concerns to our congressman,” Thebout said. “Hopefully we can have more of those in the future.”
