Rep. Wenstrup Visits County

The People's Defender

Congressman Brad Wenstrup visited Adams County last Tuesday, Sept. 2 for a talk with local veterans to hear their concerns and answer any questions about Veterans Affairs healthcare. This session was one of many that Wenstrup has hosted around Ohio’s Second Congressional District.

During the meeting, Wenstrup discussed what Congress has done recently to ensure a more efficient and accountable VA. One of the key actions was the passing of House Resolution 3230, the Veterans Access to Care Through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act. President Obama signed the legislation into law on Aug. 7 at Fort Belvior.

According to Wenstrup, the bill not only ensures that veterans have timely access to healthcare, but also addresses the mismanagement and corruption within the VA.

“This bill is a huge step in the right direction,” Wenstrup said. “I look forward to working with Secretary Bob McDonald, as well as my fellow members on the Veterans Affairs’ Committee, to reform the culture at the VA and to provide our veterans with the healthcare they deserve.”

Before attending the event, Wenstrup met Jace White, a sophomore at Peebles High School and a member of the 4-H club “Stirrin’ Up Dust.” As was previously reported in the Wednesday, July 23 edition of The People’s Defender, White restored a damaged flagpole at Jacksonville Park in Meigs Township as his 4-H Project. Wenstrup and Jace, along with Jace’s mother Kathy White, Jace’s 4-H advisors Dave and Kim Baker, and Meigs Township Trustee Joe Gardner stopped by the park to see Jace’s completed project.

“Thanks to Jace’s efforts, the new flagpole and commemorative stone at Jacksonville Park look great!” Wenstrup said. “He deserves our thanks for his commitment to his community and his passion for public service.”
