The House of Representatives is again tackling reforms at the Department of Veterans Affairs, passing 2 bills to insert accountability, streamline health care options, and exempt veterans from Obamacare regulations that hindered employment opportunities. Congressman Brad Wenstrup supported the moves, noting that only three VA employees have been removed after whistleblowers revealed the intentional manipulation of veteran waitlists for health care. Currently, it takes over a year to dismiss a poorly performing employee. “Our veterans deserve a VA that works for them,” Wenstrup remarked on the legislation. “Increasing accountability will restore trust with those who served our nation.” The White House threatened to veto the VA Accountability Act earlier in the week. The House also passed legislation to fix VA’s looming $3 billion budget shortfall that threatened to close hospitals across the nation. The Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act would streamline access to private health care options and exempt veterans from counting towards the employer mandate instituted under Obamacare. ### Office of Representative Brad Wenstrup
