Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), who represents Cincinnati and serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ decision to remove VISN 10 Director Jack Hetrick:

“Veterans are thankful that the Department of Veterans Affairs acted to dismiss a leader who has lost the trust of those he serves. This quick action was only possible because Congress included accountability provisions in the Veterans Choice Act passed in 2014, enabling the quick dismissal of Senior Executives within the system.

“The accountability cannot end here. The House passed the VA Accountability Act (H.R. 1994) last year that would give the department the tools to dismiss all employees found accountable, not just senior executives. Senate Democrats continue to block these accountability tools, and the White House has threatened to veto it. These politicians need to decide: would they rather stand with our veterans or with disgraced bureaucrats.”
