DACA was a controversial and unconstitutional executive mandate. What we need is legislative action, which comes from the American people through their representatives in Congress. While it has long been, and still is, my position that our top priorities should be securing our porous southern border and developing a legal immigration system that is beneficial to all Americans and those seeking to become Americans, I also believe we as a nation should not hold children legally accountable for the actions of their parents. For decades, Congress has abdicated its responsibility to address the status of those in this country illegally. It’s time to tackle these tough issues and work together towards long-term solutions that can be passed into law and signed by the president.
