Today from 2-3PM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will be hosting a twitter chat about the opioid crisis using the hashtag #OpioidAwareChat and you’re invited to share your thoughts and ask questions.

On hand will be the directors from NIH, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, the National Library of Medicine, the NIH Pain Consortium and more to answer questions and discuss the united effort to address the opioid crisis.

As many of us in southern and southwest Ohio know firsthand, the opioid epidemic is taking the lives of too many of our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, and our mom and dads. To participate in today’s event, just tweet @NIH using the hashtag #OpioidAwareChat.

P.S. I strongly believe the federal government needs to better empower state and local governments to address this crisis. That's why the House of Representatives delivered (with my support) a $781 million increase in resources to the local and state level for fighting the opioid epidemic -- including grants, treatment and prevention, and support for law enforcement. In the fight against the opioid epidemic, we're all in this together.
