WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M. (OH-02) issued the following statement after voting to approve a supplemental appropriations bill to fight the further spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus:

“Protecting the safety and health of the American people is my top priority. This critical funding will strengthen our ability to identify, test, and isolate more potential COVID-19 patients as well as help us quickly develop treatments for those already infected and vaccines to prevent further spread,” said Congressman Wenstrup. “I will continue monitoring developments and urge my constituents to take normal flu-season precautions, such as covering their mouths when sneezing and coughing and washing their hands with soap and water for a full twenty seconds.”

The supplemental appropriations bill contains $8.3 billion in funding for coronavirus-related efforts including:

·         More than $4 billion to make diagnostic tests available, to strengthen treatments for those invested, and to invest in vaccine development and procurement.

·         $2.2 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) response efforts.

·         $20 million for disaster assistance loans for small business harmed by the spread of the virus.

·         $1.25 billion for the Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to protect Americans around the world and stop the further spread of the virus worldwide.
