Wenstrup Leads Congressional Delegation of Health Care and National Security Experts to Southern Border

MCALLEN, TX – Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M., (R-OH) led a congressional delegation to the U.S.-Mexico border. The group visited U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) facilities, including the Brownsville Station, Donna Processing Facility, and McAllen Station, as well as the Department of Health and Human Services Delphi Emergency Intake Site, to receive a briefing and observe protocols for intake and processing, COVID-19 isolation, and medical treatment.

“First, my heart goes out to the thousands of children put in untenable positions here at the border. There is undoubtedly a migrant crisis at our southern border, as more than 172,000 people attempted to cross in March. The Biden/Harris administration cannot continue sending messages to individuals that they should attempt to illegally enter our country. We must also, as a matter of national health security, be very cognizant of who is coming across our border and what illnesses or diseases they may carry," said Congressman Wenstrup, D.P.M. "While I commend the tireless efforts of our CPB workers, I am troubled by the overcrowded and inhumane conditions, due in great part to the administration’s words and actions. While they’ve sold their policies as ‘humane,’ the reality is they’ve caused this crisis where women and children are trafficked by dangerous cartels and put in inhumane conditions."

He added, "I find it especially disappointing that neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris – who has been tasked with responding to this crisis – has even bothered to visit these CPB facilities to see the results of their policies firsthand. Worse, they’ve worked to curtail media access, limiting Americans’ ability to see what is going on in our country. I want to thank my colleagues, Reps. Bucshon, Murphy, Carter, and Crawford, for joining me on this important fact-finding tour as well as the Department of Homeland Security professionals for their trip guidance and insight. The Biden/Harris administration must commit to working with Congress to bolster security around our border, increase partnerships with neighboring countries, and provide the necessary resources to our CPB agents so they can do their jobs safely and effectively.”
