Wenstrup Celebrates President Grant's 200th Birthday on the House Floor

WASHINGTON - This week, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) spoke on the House Floor celebrating the 200th Birthday for the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant. President Grant was born in Point Pleasant, located in Clermont County, and raised in Brown County.

Grant became Commanding General of the United States Army in 1864 and as a General, Grant oversaw the surrender of General Lee at Appomattox Court House and served as Commanding General of the Army until he was elected President in 1868. Following the Civil War, President Grant oversaw the beginning of the Reconstruction Era in our country. 

"I am honored to have President Grant's birthplace as a landmark in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District," said Congressman Wenstrup. "President Grant was a great leader who made his mark on American history, and we should all seek to follow his example."
