Wenstrup Leads Ohio Delegation Letter to DOJ Demanding Action on Pregnancy Center Threats

Washington, D.C. - Today Representative Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M. (R-Ohio) led a letter signed by all Ohio Republican Members of Congress to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate and prosecute the recent wave of violence and vandalism since the leak of the draft Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The letter amplifies Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s offer of assistance to DOJ earlier this week in protecting pro-life organizations from continued threats and attacks. Yost, along with 18 other state attorneys general, recently informed Attorney General Garland that they “must investigate and prosecute these terroristic threats and acts.”

"Violence as a form of protest is completely and totally unacceptable in a civil society," said Rep. Brad Wenstrup. "These radicals seek to intimidate, harass, and attack those who work in our pregnancy centers, churches, pro-life organizations, and courts, using threats and violence to undermine law and order the service of their anti-life agenda. The Department of Justice needs to explain what steps it plans to take to deter these actions."

The letter sent by Rep. Wenstrup and 11 Ohio Members reads in part:

"Pro-choice advocates have vandalized property with threats such as 'If abortion isn’t safe, you aren’t either,' and 'Abort the church.' Even more alarming, some offenders have also become violent, shattering windows and fire-bombing offices...

"It is imperative you take immediate action to protect pro-life organizations and individuals against harassment, intimidation, and violence. 'Jane’s Revenge,' a group that has taken credit for attacks in Colorado, Massachusetts, Oregon, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin, has made clear attacks will continue and possibly intensify. They are calling for a 'Night of Rage' the night the Supreme Court decision is released, claiming they 'cannot sit idly by anymore' and that peaceful protests and campaigns are no longer enough."
