Rep. Wenstrup, House Republican Majority Passes Bill to Slash IRS Funding: 'We Do Not Need 87,000 New IRS Agents'

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) released the following statement after voting for the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, which rescinds Democrat-passed funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to hire 87,000 new agents to target middle-class families and small businesses:

"For years, Democrats have weaponized and politicized the IRS, using agents to investigate lower and middle-class taxpayers. From targeting conservative groups during the Obama administration to leaks of private, taxpayer data to score political points to a lingering backlog of unprocessed paper tax returns, it’s clear that there are fundamental problems with the IRS that need to be addressed. Hiring more agents to target everyday Americans is not one of them. The IRS should be a neutral and accountable organization that works for the American taxpayer, not one that is out to punish them," said Rep. Wenstrup. "We do not need an army of 87,000 new IRS agents, and our bill rescinding that funding puts Americans’ priorities back in order."
