Rep. Wenstrup Statement on House Conference Vote

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) released the following statement after the Republican Conference vote for House Speaker:

“When it comes to selecting a new Speaker, I have committed to supporting whoever wins the Republican Conference vote because I believe this is the best path for unity. Today Majority Leader Steve Scalise won that vote, making him now the Conference nominee. It is important that we put in place a House Speaker, as this is a duty we owe the American people at such a time of global emergency. We have wars and threats, and an open border. The U.S. must provide leadership. It is dangerous to delay.

“I am lucky to count both Majority Leader Steve Scalise and fellow Ohioan Chairman Jim Jordan as my friends, and I welcome, as reported, Jim’s decision to back Steve. I hope all will follow that lead. We are fortunate to have strong leaders like Steve and Jim and we need them in such tumultuous times. Only one can be Speaker but both can contribute, and the world and country can’t wait.”
