Never Forget
Washington,

I was in the clinic, seeing patients on this day 12 years ago. An assistant came in and said a plane hit the World Trade Center. It was only when she came back in, saying a second plane hit the towers, when I realized this was much more than a terrible accident. 12 years later, we continue to remember the heroes that ran into burning buildings, never to come out, and the heroes that forever rest in a Pennsylvania field, having prevented a fourth plane from killing many more. We also remember those that have given life and limb on our behalf since that day. Our nation was scarred by cowards who hide in the shadows of civilization and prey on civilians. But today, just like the newly completed Freedom Tower, we stand taller than before and remain a beacon of hope in the world. Our nation isn’t defined by the tragedies that happen to us. We’re defined by how we respond, and how we remember. |
