Wenstrup Has Coffee with Constituents

The Clermont Sun

Congressman Brad Wenstrup joined some of his constituents for coffee May 15 at Everything Bagels in Eastgate.

“It’s awesome,” Jim Anderson, of Union Township, said about the event. “This is what our elected officials are expected to do.”

Anderson said he has communicated with Wenstrup via email before but wanted to come to the event to meet him in person.

“I wanted to see him and shake his hand,” Anderson said. ‘He is our representative and he’s done a wonderful job.”

Robert Froelich, of Miami Township, said he had several issues he wanted to talk with Wenstrup about and wrote them up to give Wenstrup at the event.

“We had a nice little talk and I’m glad he received it,” Froelich said.

Many individuals who came to the event expressed their concerns and made suggestions about topics that ranged from healthcare for veterans to social security.

This is the second Coffee with your Congressman event Wenstrup has held in Clermont County. The first event was held at Poochie’s Place in Amelia last year.

Greg Brooks, communications director for Wenstrup, said they try to have one of the events in each county every year.

“He values them because it gives him an opportunity to have sustained dialog with constituents,” Brooks said. “This format works well.”

Brooks said having one-on-one conversations with people in his district help Wenstrup be able to better understand what issues are important to his constituents.

Brooks said they also like to select a business in the community to host the events.

“He likes coming to small, locally-owned places,” Brooks said.

Diane England, the owner of Everything Bagels, said she was glad to host the event.

England said she really likes Congressman Wenstrup and was glad to get people into the restaurant.

She said she opened Everything Bagels in 2008, and the store features many breakfast and lunch options. It is located at 792 Eastgate South Dr., Suite 200. Brooks said Wenstrup will continue hosting Coffee with Your Congressman events throughout his congressional district.
