Union Twp. man recognized for two decades of service

Cincinnati Enquirer

After more than two decades of service, Chris Smith was recently honored by the Clermont County Commissioners.

The award which was given to Smith by both the commissioners and U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-2nd District) was in recognition of Smith’s length and variety of service in the community.

Smith came to Clermont County after having lived in St. Louis, Texas and Florida.

In addition to being co-owner of Tartan Tags LLC with his wife, Beverley Kincaid, Smith has served as executive director of the Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau and was vice president of the Clermont Chamber of Commerce.

Locally, Smith has also been involved with the Batavia Rotary and served as an economic development director for the Clermont County Commissioners.

Smith, who is a resident of Union Township, took some time to reflect on his involvement in the community.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

“A couple of things come to mind. I had the privilege of chairing the fire safety levy in 2002 and 2007. That allowed the (Union Township Fire) Department (to continue) to provide the exemplary service they have.

“Recently, we established a West Clermont School Foundation to provide funding for teachers and allow kids to have educational experiences they otherwise wouldn’t have the resources for.”

What was your first exposure to service/volunteerism?

“Chairman of the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce and their Economic Development Committee in 1994 and 1995. They worked to create an environment in which companies would come here, invest here and create jobs here.”

Why is service important?

“Giving back to the community provides great satisfaction and great rewards.”

What do you think is Clermont County’s best asset?

“It’s people. It is a very warm and welcoming community. Someone from the outside who wants to participate is allowed and encouraged to do so.”

What’s next?

“We are going to be living in Venice, Fla. (and) will do summers back here in Clermont County.”

What will people best remember you for?

“A willingness to serve the community whenever asked, in whatever capacity.”
