Wenstrup Comments on Release of House Benghazi Committee Report

Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-2), member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement in response to the final report released by the House Select Committee on Benghazi:

“From the very beginning, the task of the House Select Committee on Benghazi has been to uncover the truth surrounding the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. We owe it to Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods. We owe it to the American people. And we owe it to those men and women who continue to risk their lives for our country, trusting that the U.S. government will have their backs.

After two years of thorough investigation amid constant pushback from House Democrats and the Obama Administration, the Committee’s report confirms a terrible reality: the Obama Administration failed to take appropriate action before and during the attack to protect our diplomats. Equally disturbing, the report also confirms that the Administration knew this was a terrorist attack from the start. Yet Susan Rice, who interestingly enough was later promoted to National Security Advisor, lied to the American public in the following days and weeks, and the Administration continued to spin a false narrative that this was an out-of-control demonstration inspired by some video.

I encourage everyone to read the Committee’s report, which can be found at www.benghazi.house.gov.

I thank Chairman Trey Gowdy and the entire Committee for their honorable work in bringing this information to light, and I hope their report will prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.”
