GOP Doctors Caucus Leads Letter Urging Solutions to Impending Medicare Payment Cuts to Providers
Washington,
December 15, 2022
Washington, D.C. - Today, the House GOP Doctors Caucus led a letter to House leadership urging their support for addressing impending Medicare payment cuts to health care providers in end-of-year legislation. The letter, signed by 83 Republican House Members, stresses the need for short and long-term solutions. The members write, “Health care providers are facing unprecedented burnout and turnover emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, a major concern of the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy. We are concerned that severe, impending reductions to Medicare payments will result in hiring freezes, elimination of services provided to seniors, and decreased patient access to health care services, especially following a year of record high inflation.” The letter continues: “We appreciate the work Congress has historically done to alleviate cuts for providers and recognize that Congress must again act before the end of the year to address looming cuts." Statement from the co-chairs: “Health care providers, particularly those serving rural and underserved communities, are often heavily reliant on Medicare payments to keep their lights on and doors open. Congress must act. We are committed to responsibly addressing these payment cuts before the end of the year and look forward to working on a long-term solution in the next Congress.” Read the full letter HERE.
