Today the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2609, the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act of 2014. Rep. Brad Wenstrup supported final passage of the bill and is encouraged by the strong cost saving measures. “This bill provides responsible funding levels to meet our 21st century energy, infrastructure, and nuclear needs. It reduces spending from last year by $2.9 billion, maintains the safety and readiness of our nuclear arsenal, protects the nation’s competitiveness in both infrastructure and research, and prioritizes Army Corps of Engineer projects to keep America’s waterways open,” Wenstrup said. “Importantly” Wenstrup continued, “H.R. 2609 allows funding to complete the uranium research, development, and demonstration program taking place in Piketon, Ohio. Domestically enriched uranium is a crucial component to our national security, our energy security, and our economic security and I look forward to southern Ohio providing this key resource to our nation.” The bill allows the Department of Energy to use existing funds to complete the ongoing research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) program taking place in Piketon, Ohio. Wenstrup spoke on the House floor in support of the project and the importance of the work. The final bill passed by a vote of 227 to 198. |
