WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) released the following statement after the House passed the Farm Bill, as agreed upon by the House and Senate. This legislation works to address the decline in farming stability over the last five years and makes reforms to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to encourage work: “House Republicans created great opportunities for able-bodied Americans seeking to break beyond generational poverty through employment and job training. Traditionally poorly-structured federal poverty assistance programs have held many Americans back. While I am disappointed that not all of the House-passed reforms are included in the final package, this bill did include many reforms that will enhance opportunities. As well, this legislation cracks down on program abuses and increases the focus on Americans seeking to join the workforce. “Importantly, this legislation will give American farmers greater certainty and stability. Positively, this legislation strengthens crop insurance and other programs that farmers in Ohio’s Second District need to continue feeding our nation and the world,” said Congressman Brad Wenstrup. ### |
