WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446, two Democrat bills that would restrict Americans’ constitutional rights: “It is no coincidence that just a week after Democrats pushed through a bill to weaken local law enforcement and increase federal control, they are now trying to limit your Second Amendment right to defend yourself and your family. While some, like the Speaker of the House, enjoy the protection of a security detail and the protection of working in a building defended by armed guards and barbed wire fences, they don’t want other Americans to enjoy the same privilege that comes with a secure border and lawful firearm ownership. These bills neglect to address the root causes of violence or to stop criminals who obtain weapons illegally. Rather, they impose new restrictions that will only burden those who already comply with the law. I voted against these misguided measures and will continue to stand up for Americans’ Second Amendment rights.” |
