U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) announced a recent meeting with representatives from Adams County Health & Wellness Coalition (ACHWC) at his weekly coffee with constituents.

“It was an honor to meet with Adams County Health & Wellness Coalition,” Brown said.

“Educating communities about the importance of nutrition and exercise helps prevent disease and ensures that families and their children are healthy.”

In 2013, the Adams County Health & Wellness Coalition received a Gold Healthy Ohio Healthy Community Award for their work improving the health of community members through physical activity and better nutrition. ACHWC initiatives include a community garden in Manchester, county wellness challenges, and tobacco-free parks and playgrounds.

In a statement to the House speaker, Rep. Brad Wenstrup offered congratulations to Adams County for being awarded the Healthy Ohio Healthy Community GOLD award from the Ohio Department of Health.

"As a physician, I know the importance of preventative care and the impact of lifestyle choices in creating healthy communities," Wenstrup said. "The leaders in Adams County are to be commended for their efforts. As we empower residents and families to make healthier choices, we all thrive as a community. Promoting healthy options at home and in the workplace is a positive mission for everyone."

"Specifically, the Adams Brown Creating Healthy Communities Program and the Adams County Health & Wellness Coalition deserve recognition. These programs, in collaboration with the Adams County Regional Medical Center Diabetes team, Adams County Court of Common Pleas, and local employers like General Electric, have made effective progress in working toward a healthy and effective workforce and county."
