GOP Doctors Caucus Raises Alarm Over 5th Year of Proposed Cuts to the Physician Fee Schedule

This week, the GOP Doctors Caucus released the following statement after Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a 2.8 percent cut to the physician-fee schedule, the fifth year in a row CMS has cut the reimbursement rate for physicians:

“We are disappointed to see the physician reimbursement rate reduced once again, even as inflation and medical practice costs continue to rise. CMS estimates annual operating costs will rise 3.6% by 2025. CMS’ decision will only accelerate the rise of physicians leaving medicine and practices shuttering their doors. We are deeply concerned by the damage these cuts have on the health and well-being of patients, particularly in rural and underserved areas, who will lose access to health care. As physicians, we call on our colleagues to support the bipartisan solutions proposed by the Doctors Caucus."

The GOP Doctors Caucus is working on legislative fixes including the Provider Reimbursement Stability Act of 2023, H.R. 6371, a bill that would reform budget-neutrality policies and update outdated policies that force CMS to reduce reimbursements for physicians who are caring for patients insured by Medicare.

Members of the GOP Doctors Caucus are also leading:

The Physician Fee Schedule Update and Improvements Act, H.R. 6545, which passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and H.R. 2474, the Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act
