Saying Yes to Energy

Saying Yes to Energy

Rising energy prices hurt the pocketbook of every Ohio family. The monthly electric bill and weekly gas fill-up aren’t quite as affordable as they used to be. For our seniors and families struggling on fixed incomes, even a few extra dollars at the end of the month makes a huge difference.

Congress can help Ohioans by working to lower the cost of energy, and let you keep more of your hard-earned paycheck every month. Expanding North American energy production, protecting supply lines, and more efficiently using the energy we produce lowers the ultimate cost to you and creates more American jobs.

This week, the House of Representatives passed the following 6 bills:

More Energy

North American Energy Infrastructure Act (H.R. 3301)
This administration has taken nearly 6 years to review the Keystone XL pipeline – an absurd length of time whether you support or oppose the project. This act puts in place a standard review process for future energy projects that cross international borders, so our economy isn’t frozen by uncertainty from the federal government.

Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act (H.R. 6)
Our nation is blessed by an abundance of natural energy within our borders, and recent technology has unlocked reserves once thought impossible to harness. Now, we need to be able to export some of our domestically produced energy to the world, to help allies and grow our domestic economy. This legislation would expedite the permitting process to export Liquefied Natural Gas, creating more American jobs right in Ohio.

Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act (H.R. 4899)
Since President Obama has taken office, energy development on federally-owned property has stalled. His “no new drilling” policy has resulted in no new jobs. This legislation proposes a drill-smart, job-creation plan that moves forward on new energy leases to unleash our energy potential, lower your weekly gas bill, and drive our economy forward

Cheaper & More Reliable Energy

Reliable Home Heating Act (S. 2086)
Remember the propane shortage this winter? With the Reliable Home Heating Act, the federal government would recognize 30-day emergency periods declared by state governors during home heating fuel shortages, and temporarily allow more trucks on the road to deliver needed energy, including heating oil, natural gas, and propane, to keep you warm in the cold winter months.

Streamlining Energy Efficiency for Schools Act (H.R. 4092)
Over the years, several of government programs have popped-up to make our schools more energy efficient. This bill would streamline these federal programs by establishing a clearinghouse to publish information on federal programs and financing tools that may be used to develop energy efficiency, distributed generation, and energy retrofitting projects for schools.

Require the Secretary of Energy to prepare a report on the impact of thermal insulation on both energy and water use for potable hot water (H.R. 4801)
Common sense steps can not only save energy, but also save taxpayer money. This report would examine the cost-benefits of thermal insulation on both energy and water systems for potable water in federal buildings and the return on investment of installing the insulation.

More Jobs
Over a quarter million Ohioans are employed in the oil and natural gas sector, creating over $12 billion in wages in just 2011. The benefit to Ohio families from this week’s pro-energy, pro-growth, and pro-jobs legislation would mean lower energy bills and more money in the budget at the end of the month.
