Prioritizing the Piketon Plant

As a lifelong Ohioan, I understand the importance of cleaning up the Piketon site. It is an economic necessity and an environmental imperative. The cleanup is facing a serious funding shortfall that could result in layoffs for hundreds of workers at the site. At this time of heightened uncertainty for our community, I want to update you on my ongoing efforts to keep the cleanup process on track.

Letters and Statements

September 30, 2013: I sent a letter to David Huizenga, the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Environmental Management at the Department of Energy (DOE), stressing the importance of Deconstruction & Decommissioning at Piketon. [Click Here].

July 9, 2014:  I introduced an amendment to increase funding with cuts elsewhere in DOE’s budget. [Click Here].

July 24, 2014: I joined a letter to Energy Secretary Moniz, urging DOE to advocate for additional funding with Congress and the Administration. Co-signers included Senators Portman and Brown, and Congressmen Bill Johnson, Steve Stivers, Tim Ryan, and Marcy Kaptur. [Click Here].

August 19, 2014: I sent a letter to Energy Secretary Moniz, demanding a visit to the site and an explanation of how the project will proceed in the short-term. Co-signers included Congressmen Bill Johnson and Steve Stivers. [Click Here].
